Honor Choir
Honor choir is an audition, after-school choir that meets Tuesdays after school until 3:15 p.m. Students will not be able to ride the bus so they will need to have a ride available. Honor choir performs at various school events during the year as well as CMS concerts. They also do 2-3 run-outs a year during the school day. A small group from honor choir will perform at the honor festival in December. The entire group will perform at the middle school music festival held in March.
Auditions for this ensemble will be held in October.
Band & Orchestra
Band provides information to students and parents through the Charms website. Band is a year long class students must sign up for at the beginning of their seventh grade year. Congress band performs 2 concerts a year and participates in local contests.

Lego League
Lego League is a friendly competitive team for middle school students grade 6-8.
Objective: Friendly competition is at the heart of FIRST ® LEGO® League Challenge, as teams of up to 10 students engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering as they build and code a LEGO® robot that navigates the missions of the robot game. Teams also participate in an innovation project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.

The competitions emphasize friendly sportsmanship, respect for the contributions of others, teamwork, learning, and community involvement and are part of our commitment to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Practice is Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday(unless otherwise noted) from 2:30 to 3:30pm in the Media Center

Lego League season currently runs from mid-October through the end of November.

Transportation to and from school for practice is not provided.

Rides must pick up students at 3:30 pm. Please ensure your student is picked up promptly at 3:30 pm so they may continue to attend after school activities.

All school rules apply. Student must be in attendance in school on the day of the event to attend. If competition is on a Saturday, student must be in attendance on Friday.

National Junior Honor Society
National Junior Honor Society is a service organization. Students eligible for membership must demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character through school and community activities. To be eligible for NJHS you must:
- Be a 7th or 8th grade student for the academic year of 2024-2025
- Have achieved a minimum cumulative 3.5 grade point average the previous academic year.
- Provide evidence of leadership in school and/or outside of school.
If accepted for membership into the National Junior Honor Society, commitment includes:
- Participating in monthly meetings during the 2024-25 school year.
- Participating in National Junior Honor Society service projects.
- Accumulating community service hours. (5 hours per quarter)
- Maintaining a 3.5 or higher grade point average.
- Maintaining the high standards of leadership and character.

Scholar Bowl
What is Scholar Bowl?
Scholar Bowl is a competitive academic team activity for students. It is similar to a quiz bowl, but with a few key differences. Here's a brief overview:
Objective:
The objective of Scholar Bowl is to test students' knowledge in various subjects, including:

Spelling and grammar

Popular culture
Format:
A typical Scholar Bowl match consists of two teams of four to five students each. The match is divided into several rounds, with each round featuring a different format, such as:

Toss-up questions: Individual students answer questions, and the first student to buzz in earns points for their team.

Bonus questions: Teams work together to answer questions, and the team earns points for correct responses.

Relay rounds: Teams work together to answer a series of questions, with each student contributing to the answer.
Scoring:
Points are awarded for correct responses, with more challenging questions worth more points.

Student Council
The mission of Congress Student Council is to explore the process of student government with the goal of making CMS the best it can be for all students and staff.
Membership Responsibilities:
- Give the students a voice in the school by attending weekly bi-meetings
- Organize a variety of school events
- school dances, school assemblies, homecoming parades, school mixers
- Make the school the best it can be through a variety of service activities
- Be a positive role model for your peers
- Leadership projects, ROAR, involvement, behavior, academics
The student application process is held in the spring for our current 6th & 7th graders. If you are a 5th grader interested in StuCo in middle school, the application process will take place the fall of your 6th grade year. This will all be communicated to students through daily announcements.
Where Everybody Belongs (WEB)
- 8th grade only – students were chosen last spring.
- Applications will come out in the spring for the next school year.
- WEB leaders will facilitate the 6th grade Orientation for incoming 6th graders.
- 8th graders help 6th graders with their transition into middle school.
- WEB leaders will meet once a month on a day to be determined. Transportation is not provided for this opportunity.
- 8th graders lead lessons with their group on topics: school questions, academic tips and more.
