Dr. Ryan Smith

Dr. Ryan Smith is the assistant principal at Congress Middle School. He started his education career in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools as a bus driver and has worked his way to his current position.

Dr. Smith earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from William Woods University. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership Management from Friend's University, a Master's Degree in Business Education from Rockhurst University, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Administration from William Woods University.

Van Horn
Brian Van Horn

Brian Van Horn will serve as assistant principal at Congress and Plaza middle schools, starting with the 2020-2021 school year. He began his career in K-12 education as an activities director and coach. Van Horn most recent position was a PE teacher in the Hickman Mills C-1 School District, where he takes on acting principal responsibilities when his principal is absent, and he serves as district PE department chairperson and building department lead. He earned Hickman Mills’ “It’s On Me” Award for going above and beyond, and he received multiple building nominations for Teacher of the Year.

Van Horn received his bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University, his master’s degree in Athletic Administration from William Woods University and his master’s degree from Arkansas State University in Special Education Instruction. He received his education specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Missouri.
