Signs of Suicide

Signs of Suicide
Signs of SuicideAll grade levels 7-12 in Park Hill are implementing a Signs of Suicide (S.O.S.) program this school year. The goal of S.O.S. is to give students some tools when confronted with either their own or a friend's struggle with mental health issues, including suicide. For Congress students this will take place during October. The students will watch a video with some short vignettes about how to handle talking with a friend about mental health issues, including suicide. The acronym A.C.T. is a large part of this program. A.C.T. stands for Acknowledge the concerns spoken, display Care to the person, and Tell a trusted adult about the concern. The final part of the S.O.S. program is a short survey for 8th graders and a chance for 7th graders to request to see a mental health professional or to refer a friend they are concerned about to a mental health professional. These students will then be seen by a guidance counselor or social worker from Park Hill or be referred to an official from Tri-County Mental Health.
